The Association of Free Zone Founders and Operators (SEBKİDER), established to develop free zones in Türkiye and turn them into stronger centres of attraction for foreign direct investment, has decided to continue for a further term under its current President, Yusuf Kılınç.
At the SEBKİDER Annual General Meeting, which took place in Istanbul with a large turnout, Yusuf Kılınç was re-elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors by a unanimous vote, whilst Edvar Mum, Tarkan Değirmenci, Hakan Ceylan and Ergenekon Küçük were elected as members of the Board of Directors for the new term.
Speaking at the General Assembly, which was also attended by Emel Emirlioğlu, Director General of Free Zones at the Ministry of Trade, and Cem Topbaş, Deputy Director General, Chairman of the Board Yusuf Kılınç said he was deeply honored to have been re-elected to the position and stated: “During the previous term, we took significant steps to enhance the effectiveness of free zones, contribute to legislative processes, and strengthen cooperation among industry stakeholders. In the new term, we will build on these achievements and focus on projects that will enhance the global competitiveness of free zones, improve the investment environment, and support sustainable growth.”
The aim is to increase occupancy rates in free zones
Yusuf Kılınç stated that they would continue to work intensively in the coming period to attract more direct investment to free zones—which serve as a hub for the Türkiye economy in terms of production, employment and high-value-added exports—adding, “Our aim is to increase the occupancy rate in our zones, which currently stands at around 70 per cent, to 85 per cent. We will better explain the advantages that free zones offer to domestic and foreign investors engaged in export-oriented production. With the arrival of new investors, we aim to increase the number of jobs in our free zones to over 100.000 and to see exports from these zones reach 14 billion dollars. I am confident that, by working together with all our stakeholders and maintaining stronger and more effective communication, we will easily achieve these targets.”
